So what new weapons could Kratos play with in the God of War: Ragnarok? Perhaps a sword to go with his new shield? Also what about Atreus? Well considering he is an expert at long-ranged attacks, perhaps he would be equipped with a spear or even a ‘David and Goliath’ style sling-shot? We don’t know, but we’d love to see! However, while I would like to see more of the same in terms of gameplay in God of War: Ragnarok other than a few minor tweaks here and there, I believe one or two new additions wouldn’t go amiss. First of all I want the Leviathan Axe and the other weapon (again I’m being deliberately vague) to go nowhere. Sure the gameplay balance and difficulty would have to be spot-on, but just imagine if you could play God of War (2018) with a friend taking control of Atreus or Kratos, it would be truly epic. As long as any potential co-op feature wouldn’t lessen the single player experience, I’m all for a co-op feature to be included in God of War: Ragnarok. So what could be better than an A.I taking control of Atreus? The answer would be a friend. As you progressed through the God of War (2018) campaign you could level-up both Kratos and Atreus, and when that happened they started to work well together as a team, pulling off some epic double-team moves. That doesn’t mean we couldn’t get an expansion for the next game though, something to tide us over until God of War Part 3? With the likelihood that God of War: Ragnarok will feature the other three realms, what would that leave for a potential expansion? Perhaps any expansion for God of War: Ragnarok could tease something based upon Notable kami or Hindu mythology leading into a God of War 3 (so to speak). If this happened, it’s likely the 2021 sequel wouldn’t continue on with the Norse mythology, meaning that we wouldn’t get an epic showdown that some of us expect (I’m being vague to avoid spoilers). We could argue that if Santa Monica did give us an expansion, it would likely feature the three remaining realms, which could put a spanner in the works for the next game.
To be fair, Santa Monica Studio supported the game well with New Game Plus, but for those that finished and likely earned the Platinum Trophy before that New Game Plus arrived, there wasn’t too much to go back for.Īt this stage we’re not expecting DLC for God of War (2018).
God of War (2018) was certainly not lacking in content. It had a fulfilling and quite lengthy campaign with side-activities that offered a genuine purpose to the campaign. However, despite this, some fans were calling for an expansion. There are still plenty of realms to visit – plus whatever the developers at Santa Monica Studio decided to throw into the mix. Perhaps when Kratos is done with the Norse gods, he could find a new form of mythology to terrorise, or perhaps we might even see the original God of War remade for PS5? So that still leaves three of the nine realms to visit: Asgard, Svartalfheim and Vanaheim.
